Even if you haven’t met them, you can tell from his website that his family is important to Tomàs O’Grady. That includes his wonderful wife Justine, and his four kids: Eireann, Lauren, Ryan and Dylan.
But did you know that their family also includes two dogs whom Tomàs rescued? They are Mae Mae and Luke, a couple of fluffy terrier mixes.
One day a volunteer for EnrichLA, Tomàs’ nonprofit organization that helps to build edible gardens in local schools, came into the office with a tote bag over her shoulder and a concerned expression on her face. She happened to mention some puppies–and it turned out she’d brought two pups with her in the tote rather than leave them in her car. They were homeless, and she had taken them from a friend who was about to drop them off at a public shelter. She wasn’t sure yet what to do with them.
Tomàs looked at them, then initially told his volunteers not to mention them to Justine since she’d want to keep them. So what did he do? He soon showed them to Justine himself, since he wanted to keep them!
The rest is O’Grady history. Mae Mae and Luke are now members of the family, too.
We stand with organizations like The Sam Simon Foundation’s Mobile Veterinary Clinic, Dogs Without Borders, and Best Friends Animal Society – Los Angeles , along with the countless others pushing for animals’ rights. Our furry friends can’t vote but we can!
As your next City Council member, I won’t rest until I push through:
–A full-court press on turning L.A. into a no-kill shelter city by 2017.
–Increased spay and neuter services in areas where it’s needed most, including mobile services, all which leads to fewer shelter animals.
–Increased adoptions, also through mobile services. (Let’s give taco trucks a run for their money!)
–It’s imperative to enforce existing spay and neuter laws.
–We must come down harder on breeders and face the root of the problem.
