TRANSFORM THIS CITY BY LEADING BY EXAMPLE
LA has the highest paid Council Members in the nation, whose salaries are $184,000. I will start by halving mine. Only if our leaders are fiscally responsible can they ask our city family to contribute more towards their retirement and to embrace innovative workplace practices.
How can I promise you that I will change this city when I am part of the problem?
How can I ask a custodian at city hall who makes $45,000 per year to contribute more towards her or his healthcare when I am making 4 times as much?
I can’t and I won’t.
City Hall must learn to do more with less. That must begin with me.
Justine and I + our 4 children live within our means. I suspect you do the same. That is the very least that we should expect of City Hall.
Leading by example is the only way that I know how to begin this conversation.
